WordPress is a free online blogging tool with which you can instantly access the online blogging world easily. It is also a content management system which is based on PHP and MySQL. Now there are a lot of ways to install WordPress on your computer. In this step by step tutorial, we will learn to install WordPress on computer. Following steps must be kept in mind before installing it:
As already discussed, WordPress needs a certain server for its successful running so let us download and install WAMP as our server for WordPress. You can download it from its website. After downloading, you need to install it on your computer. It can be downloaded as shown below in the picture. Simply open the browser and enter the link http://www.wampserver.com/en/#wampserver-64-bits-php-5-5 . After that, the necessary platform for running WordPress i.e. WAMP will be installed. It is to be noted here that no other server should be running while installing WAMP. SO make sure it is like that and then install WAMP.
After downloading WAMP setup and making sure that no other server is running in background, double click on the WAMP setup file and install it using its basic setup. By default it will install in windows drive or “C” drive. The setup file is as shown below in the figure:
It is to be noted here that each time you restart your computer; you will have to manually start the WAMP server in order to run WordPress properly. You can do so by double-clicking its icon on desktop each time you restart your computer. How will you know that once you have double clicked it, the server will start running? Well for that see a green “W” mark on your taskbar. It looks red by default. The icon will look like that on your desktop:
After successfully installing WAMP server, got to WordPress official website and download its setup zip file. You can go to its website by clicking this link https://wordpress.org/download/ . This would download the latest version of WordPress.
Go the directory where you have installed WAMP. Take the path of WAMP’s install directory. By default, it would be installed in “C” drive of your computer. Extract the WordPress setup file in this WAMP install directory. For that purpose right click on the WordPress zip file and then click extract. When asked for extraction directory then enter the WAMP install directory path. Now after that make a copy of extracted WordPress folder and rename it as “wordpress1”. This would save you from the trouble of again downloading the setup of WordPress if required later.
After that, open your browser and put the address as “localhost/phpmyadmin/” in the address bar. Press enter. The following screen will come in front of you. Select the database option as shown in the figure and click it.
This will open another window as shown in the figure below. From this window, select the database type and create a database for your WordPress. In the picture, the default database name is set as “table” however you can change it to whatever you like. After filling all the necessary stuff, click create and this will make your new WAMP database ready to use for WordPress.
For that purpose, again reopen your browser and type “localhost” in the address bar and press enter. A window shown as follow will open. Select the new copied “WordPress1” folder that you renamed earlier, from this window as shown below:
After that, following window will open in front of you. From this window, click on “Create Configuration file” as shown below. This will take you towards one step closer in setting up a configuration file.
After that, the main page of WordPress will show. Press “Let’s go” present at the end of this main page as shown in figure below:
Now this is a very critical step in linking WordPress with the WAMP database so it must be done with great care. The procedure is as follows:
After pressing the submit button, the following window will open. Enter the necessary details in this window in order to proceed with the installation of WordPress. Finally, press the “Install WordPress” button present at the end of the page as shown below:
In the end, the following screen will open. This will show you the “success!” sign if the installation has been carried out successfully. In case of any problem, this window will not show and you will have to reinstall the WordPress by repeating each step. But don’t worry; if you will perform all these steps carefully then no such trouble will occur. So did you see how simple it is to install WordPress on your personal computer?
